Paneer Momo 印式芝士餃子 are a popular Indian appetizer or snack that originated in the region of Tibet. They are essentially dumplings filled with a mixture of paneer (Indian cottage cheese) and various spices. Here’s a simple recipe for making paneer momos:
Ingredients:
– 1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
– Water, as needed
– 200 grams paneer, crumbled
– 1 small onion, finely chopped
– 1 small carrot, grated
– 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
– 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
– 1 teaspoon soy sauce
– 1 teaspoon vinegar
– Salt to taste
– Oil for cooking
Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl, add the all-purpose flour and gradually add water to make a soft dough. Knead the dough well and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
2. In a separate bowl, combine the crumbled paneer, chopped onion, grated carrot, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, soy sauce, vinegar, and salt. Mix well to form a uniform filling.
3. Divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into a thin circular disc, around 3-4 inches in diameter.
4. Place a spoonful of the paneer filling in the center of each disc.
5. Lift the edges of the disc and start pleating to seal the filling. Bring the pleats together and twist them to form a tight seal. Make sure the momos are well-sealed to prevent the filling from spilling out during cooking.
6. Repeat the process for all the dough portions and filling.
7. Heat water in a steamer and grease the steamer tray with oil to prevent sticking.
8. Place the paneer momos on the greased tray and steam them for about 10-12 minutes or until the outer covering becomes translucent and cooked.
9. Once cooked, remove the momos from the steamer and let them cool for a few minutes.
10. Heat oil in a pan and lightly fry the steamed momos until they turn golden brown and crispy.
11. Serve the paneer momos hot with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as tomato chutney, mint chutney, or soy sauce.
Enjoy your homemade paneer momos!
